This past weekend I was down and out with a huge cold. Thankfully I had little to do and a sweet husband that made me Hot Toddy’s every night. About 2 years ago I discovered The Hot Toddy and I wrote this great post about my Hot Toddy essentials. Why it took me so long to discover this amazing drink I have no idea? My husband would probably answer this question by saying ‘because you never try anything new’ and he would be so right. Thursday night we went out to dinner for my dear Mother In Law’s birthday at Clark Food and Wine on Lower Greenville. It was amazing food but what stood out to me (with my cold and all) were the cocktails. The bartender made me 2 different toddies! The first a twist on the traditional, spiked with jalapeño agave syrup (to wake up the sinuses) and a lemon tequila toddy! I mean I was blown away, who knew that so many warm alcoholic drinks could be made! Here is a great little recipe from The Kitchn Seven Days, Seven Hot Toddies: Part 1 project!
Tequila Hot Toddy
1 teaspoon honey
5 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 whole anise star
1 1/2 ounce reposado tequila
1/2 cup boiling water
Slice of lime
Add honey and spices to the bottom of a heat-proof snifter or mug. Add the boiling water and then tequila. Squeeze the lime, drop it in, and stir until the honey is melted.
